Pets: the hardest part of all

Today, I had to concede defeat and accept my cat, Button, wasn’t going to make it. She had been anorexic for about a month after her sister had died. Despite the best attempts of the vet and I, there was a slow decline. Yesterday, it became clear it was crunch time and, as there was no improvement today, the decision had to be made as she was beginning to become very weak.

I can take comfort in her having an extra eleven good days while we tried to save her. She was perfectly happy and comfortable right to the end, enjoyed the sunshine and the garden as well as taunting next door’s cats.

Despite all of the above, and knowing it was my duty to make the decision in her best interest, it was a heart-breaking thing to do. There is now a huge space in the house.

  1. I am so sorry to hear about your loss. We had to make the same decision for our Maggie Mae (sweet sweet black lab) a few months ago. We are still missing her even with two big pups around. Pets are family…not just animals.
